Abraham Lincoln Abraham Lincoln has been depicted as a very gifted orator and noble leader of our country. He is often compared with Shakespeare, due to his ability to say amazingly profound words. He is a very important symbol of our country’s history. Lincoln definitely led an interesting life. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in a log cabin in Hardin (now Larue) County, Kentucky. This was near Hodgenville, Kentucky. His mother’s name was Nancy Hanks Lincoln; his father’s name was Thomas Lincoln. Abraham was named after his father’s father. He had an older sister named Sarah, and he had a younger brother named Thomas, but he died in infancy. Abraham Lincoln was once described by his cousin Dennis Hanks as,quot;...hell†¦show more content†¦Mary and Abraham had an off and on relationship. They first confronted when they were at a cotillion and Abraham asked her to dance. Eventually they got engaged, broke up, and then saw each other again. They decided to get married in late 1842, yet they didn’t want a big wedding. Abraham told the minister that he wanted to â€Å"get hitched tonight.†They got married in the Edward’s house in which Mary was staying. About 30 relatives and friends attended; Mary did not wear an elaborate dress. On November 11, 1842, Abraham wrote a letter to Samuel D. Marshall, which included him saying, â€Å"Nothing new here, except my marrying, which to me is a matter of profound wonder.†The couple had 4 children: Robert, Edward, William, and Thomas (well known as Tad). In 1846, Lincoln was a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives and won the election. During his term, he was well known for his opposition of slavery and the Mexican-American War. After his term he went back to his law practice and became suddenly uninterested in politics for a while. After the Kansas-Nebraska Act was enforced, Lincoln became more active in politics again. He made an important speech, now known as the Lost Speech because many people failed to take notes during it. Apparently, there were many ideas stressed in the Lost Speech. Effective Leadership Becoming an effective leader is important so that one can manage their employees. In the given case study, Steve lacks discipline, punctuality, organization, co-ordination and communication. He needs to overcome these issues to become an effective leader. Steve must communicate properly when relaying instructions, recapping meetings and doling out company updates. Steve must set goals for every department and shall give them a unified focus and inspire them to be together. It is important to meet deadlines and act within the proper time. The achievable goals must be set and Steve must set deadlines accordingly so that none is missed. Being late hurts relationships, sales, organizational culture and growth of the organization. The core Essay The CoreThe core was a scientific fiction movie about how the Earth stopped spinning on its axis. The problem rooted at the core of the Earth. It caused the atmosphere to weaken and therefore made the Earth vulnerable to the solar winds from the sun. If this problem had not been solved it would have been the end of the world and life on the planet would have ceased to exist. However the U.S. government seemed it fit to try to stop this from occurring by sending a team of scientists to start the inner core of the Earth. The Earths inner core is a continuously spinning ball of molten metal. The core is the control center of all the electrical activity such as lightning and the Northern Lights otherwise known as the Aurora Borealis. As the problem increased in danger, the effects seemed to show. Birds began to crash because to navigate over long distances with electro magnetic fields inside their skulls. When the core stopped spinning the birds lost their ability to navigate and therefo re crashed into every wall they came across. The scientists figured if they were able to start the core up again they would be able to save the world from utter and complete destruction. Eventually the government sent the scientists down to the core in a ship that could drill trough the earth. They eventually reached the core and started the core with a group of nuclear bombs which they blew in a pattern because the outer core was too thin and unable to hold in the power of the nukes. Since it was a movie the mission was a success and the world was saved even though there were lost lives going through the process.
